This course explores the foundations of low-carbon building operations, including understanding building performance, decarbonization concepts and strategies, the role of building operators in implementation, and relevant case studies.

The Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) will offer a Low Carbon Training Foundations Course to provide professionals across all industries with an introduction to important low-carbon concepts. Over five modules, this program will help establish common understanding, approach and vocabulary that will enable collaboration across all building sector professions.

The building sector is responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions. As part of a larger national capacity and skill-building project, the RAIC held a training program during Congress 2023 to increase low-carbon awareness among architects.  To increase access to a larger audience, the RAIC will be hosting a live webinar version of the training over four Tuesdays in February: 6, 13, 20, 27, 2024.  Each module is 90 minutes in duration.

This six-week online course equips engineers with the skills needed for collaborative decision-making, design, construction, and operation, along with critical knowledge related to the growing demand for low-carbon buildings with specialized topics, including implications for Indigenous and other equity, deserving groups. The course also provides exposure to new technologies, materials, tools and approaches to equip engineers with the knowledge necessary to implement low-carbon initiatives in their professional day to day.

Offered through the Climate Risk Institute (CRI), new sessions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays begin in January 2024.  

Capacity is limited to 50 people per session.

This course addresses GHG accounting, asset and portfolio level standards, targets and pathways, low-carbon technologies and transition plans, reporting and 3^rd-party verification.
